EGG-energy Summer internships
EGG-energy offers a range of interesting summer opportunities to those who want to gain hands-on experience providing power services to Tanzanian customers, and becoming familiar with the nit and grit of starting a BtoC commercial venture in a challenging environment.
Interns operate as regular team members, participating in group meetings, identifying areas in which EGG-energy can improve, providing and testing solutions, writing blog entries etc. They are staffed on a specific project, and receive guidance from EGG-fellows and EGG-management.
Were you to join our crew in summer 2012, you would contribute to the expansion of our network by identifying new sites for on-grid power stations and solar franchises, support the development of new services for our customer base, improve staff training procedures or create the infrastructure for our data collection and analysis system.
Internship 1: New site identification & assessment
Responsibility: Develop, distribute and analyze surveys to assess and rank potential sites & franchises
Your ideal background: socio-economic studies or anthropology or humanities …, some knowledge of Kiswhahili a big plus
Desired start date: Mid-Late May
Internship 2: Testing & evaluation of new service lines
Responsibility: Short term viability test/trial of lanterns, small batteries, tv systems, or grid back-up system
Your ideal background: mechanical or electrical engineering
Desired start date: Mid-Late May
Internship 3: Training processes and materials
Responsibility: Develop training processes and manuals for all parts of business
Your ideal background: education studies and/or HR experience
Desired start date: Mid-Late May
Internship 4: Data management
Responsibility: Support expansion manager in data acquisition; analyze data
Your ideal background: business studies; familiarity with spreadsheet modeling and basic statistical tools

EGG-energy Fellow Opportunity
EGG-energy fellows are young people with a passion for international development and field work. They are looking forward to gaining hands-on experience in a social enterprise serving off-the grid communities in SubSaharan Africa, and interested in living in Tanzania for a few months. We offer them exposure to all areas of our business, and responsability for a varied range of activities. From the development of renewable energy partnerships and the streamlining of operational procedures to face-to-face interactions with our customers in Tanzania, EGG-energy fellows have high leverage to improve the service that we provide our customers.
Examples of activities that EGG-energy Fellows have been engaged in:
- Product Development
- Customer Acquisition Experiments
- Customer Financing Facilitiation
- Product Sourcing
- Accounting Support
- Business Development (local and global partnerships)
- Development & implementation of Expansion Plan Strategies
- Development & implementation IT system for battery and customer management
Fellows operate as regular team members, participating in group meetings, writing bi-weekly blog entries, identifying areas in which EGG-energy can improve along, providing and testing solutions etc.
Fellowship positions last from 3 months to a full year depending on the availability of the fellow and of EGG-energy managers. Currently, fellow applications are examined on a rolling basis.
